About Me

Hi there!

I’m India, a journalist-turned-travel writer-turned-copywriter. I’m on a mission to help the good people of Miami build sustainable, life-changing businesses around the city. Yours included.

Plotting my course

Let’s get this out of the way: Like most people in Dade, I wasn’t born in Miami. I’m actually from West Virginia, but I came here by way of South America.

After living and studying in Argentina (and a failed attempt at moving to Colombia…eek), I knew I wanted to spend my post-college years in a place where I could put my foreign language and anthropology degree to good use.

Clearly, I didn’t really have a plan.

The city’s glitzy beaches and non-Appalachian winters called to me, and I was beyond excited to build my permanent home in a place with a population of more than 20,000 people.

I was a freelance reporter working the rural health care beat at the time, but I wasn’t earning enough to make it a full-time gig just yet. So, like most young Millennials, I took the first job I could find in my dream city.

It placed me at an immigration nonprofit … but it also brought me to Miami.

To my 22-year-old brain, it felt like a price worth paying.

With a couple hundred (borrowed) dollars, I packed a suitcase and an (also borrowed) duffel bag and started living my best life in sunny South Florida.

Except that’s not how that happened.

Like, at all.

A little turbulence

When you don’t have any savings and have only just started raking in a few months of a nonprofit’s salary, nobody will rent you a place to stay. Bummer.

But I absolutely refused to move back to West Virginia, so my first home in Miami was a hostel on South Beach.

We’re talking about a six-person dorm whose only amenities were a shared bathroom and a free continental breakfast in one of Miami’s most pulsating neighborhoods.

Not exactly what dreams are made of.

Now, as a Believer, I can see how God was working in and through all of this mess. But, at the time, I only believed in myself, so the challenges were suffocating.

My depression skyrocketed, and some days, it was almost impossible to roll out of my bunk bed.

But instead of quitting, I poured all my free time into my writing business. I was living fast and squeezing a story out of every new experience I had in Miami.

Eventually, I saved up enough to move in with a roommate, and that’s when I really thought my dream life in Miami would begin.

And, yet again, it didn’t.

Over the next year, the thunderstorms continued to roll in. I was assaulted on my way to work and followed down the street more times than I can count. To top it off, I was hit by a car while riding my bike.

I was ready to give up.

I started to hate Miami. I was broken more times than I could count and tried to leave the city more times than I can remember, but God wouldn’t let that happen.

He met me in the lowest season of my depression, and He showed me a better way. Once I started living my life in accordance with His purpose, everything finally started to fall into place.

A new plan

I closed my writing business for nearly four years so I could focus on my mental, emotional and spiritual health. During that time, I switched jobs half a dozen times, survived a pandemic and wrestled with God.

In the end? I came out steadier, and I have a clearer understanding of the mission I’m called to live out in Miami.

And so much of my purpose in this season has to do with you.

If you’ve lived or worked in Miami any length of time, you probably already know it’s a difficult city. It’s hard to build a thriving business here, especially in the tourism and wellness industries, which can seem as numerous as the stars in the sky.

And unless you’ve got millions to spend on shiny ads or have a dozen influencer connections, marketing your business can feel impossible.

But it doesn’t have to be.

Now, as an SEO copywriter, I’m committed to providing you with winning website copy that gets your business in front of as many eyes as possible.

Whether you want to expand your audience or convert passive readers into paying customers, I’m here to help.
